MEET THE MAKERS
Sakina Akroum
I am a college student. My love for my work in the associative made me very focused on my goals, achieving objectives, helping women, and their participation in the labor market. I want to be a leader in the associative and collaborative work by leading traditional and cultural activities within the association. I want to improve my standard of living and complete my education in oder to fight against poverty. As someone who was born in a village from the mountains, I practice traditional craft and hardware. In my spare time, I love to travel with young people.
Meriam Ibchen
I never went to school after I graduated from primary school. I am married and a mother of two sons. I love my children a lot, so in order to provide them a better life along with my husband , I joined the association with my girlfriends and sisters. I hope to eliminate middlemen who exploit female artisans and achieve our mission for fair trade. In my spare time, I like hiking with my family around the city of Marrakech.
Souad El Bahiz
Souad is the founder of the Women's Leather Collective of Marrakech. Her husband was a famous leather artisans but when he fell ill, Souad took over his business and turned into the the bustling cooperative that it is today. She and her husband have three children and she hopes to grow the cooperative into a profitable, much sought after business in the near future.
