MEET THE MAKERS
Aicha Meskour
Aicha Meskour is one of the first women who joined Numedia Tabudrart Coop. She was born in 1949 and grew up in the village of Iskatafen. There she lived with her mother, who taught Aicha to love weaving and make several different types of rugs. Aicha married in 2000 and lives with her husband after her only daughter has married and has a family of her own. Joining the coop enables Aicha to reach different parts of the world thanks to the rugs she can make with her own hands.
Fatima Imharken
Fatima Imharken was born in 1971 in Ikhef Nighir, a village in Ait Bouguemez (“the happy valley”) of the High Atlas. After getting married, she moved to another village in the valley called Imelghass, where she lives with her husband and four children. When she was young, her mother provided her with the chance to discover the world of rug making. Today, she is one of the members of Numedia Tabudrart Coop and she is willing to share her rugs with anyone from any corner of the world.
VISIT THE VILLAGE
Numedia Tabudrart hosts visitors in their village — share tea, watch the artisans at work, and see the craft up close. Visits start at $17 per person, and most of it goes straight to the group.
