MEET THE MAKERS
Fatima Imharken
Fatima Imharken was born in 1971 in Ikhef Nighir, a village in Ait Bouguemez (“the happy valley”) of the High Atlas. After getting married, she moved to another village in the valley called Imelghass, where she lives with her husband and four children. When she was young, her mother provided her with the chance to discover the world of rug making. Today, she is one of the members of Numedia Tabudrart Coop and she is willing to share her rugs with anyone from any corner of the world.
Aicha Moussaid
Aicha Moussaid is one of the women working in Numedia Tabudrart Coop. She was born in 1967 in Taghoulit, one of the villages of Ait Bouguemez (“the happy valley”) of the High Atlas. After getting married she moved to another village in the valley called Imelghes, where she now lives with her husband and four grown children. Thanks to her mother and her aunts, Aicha learned to make her own rugs and became part of this coop in the beginning of 2020.
Fatima Ahzmad
Fatima Ahzmad was born on April 4, 1970 in Figuig. After her father’s retirement,she moved back to her home village of Ikhef nighir, a village in Ait Bouguemez (“the happy valley”) of the High Atlas. After returning home, she married, and now has two daughters and two sons. Her love for weaving started when she was a teenager thanks to her mother who helped her learn about making rugs. Fatima joined Numedia Tabudrart in 2019.
VISIT THE VILLAGE
Numedia Tabudrart hosts visitors in their village — share tea, watch the artisans at work, and see the craft up close. Visits start at $17 per person, and most of it goes straight to the group.
