MEET THE MAKERS
Rkia Elmrabti
Rkia was born in 1972 in Ksar Gaouz, which is 500 meters away from Beni Moussi. She did not go to school because her family was not aware of its importance in life. Despite this, she was still motivated to learn and is now a regular attendee at the local literacy center. She hopes that the work of her cooperative continues and grows so that she can get to know other cultures all over the world and introduce the world to her local heritage.
Naima Chakiri
Naima was born in 1976 in Ksar Gaouz, which is a small village just outside of Beni Moussi. She is the current treasurer of The Cooperative Zohour Development of Women and can often be found mentoring young girls in weaving, passing along the skills she learned for her mother. Naima is one of the few educated women of the cooperative, she attended the Dar Al Quran, which is an educational institution that promotes cultural and religious aspects in Moroccan society. She hopes to improve the quality of the local production through training and practice, and also by conducting research about sites related to traditional crafts.
