"Earlier this year, the women of Tithrite achieved a dream they had been working toward since founding their association 17 years ago: moving out of the 20m² garage they had long rented as their workshop and into a 200m² 18th-century mudhouse at the heart of their village — a prime location property they purchased outright with the income from their Anou sales. This move represents far more than a larger space. It reflects the independence the artisan women have built against all odds, the growing role of the association in village life, and how their vision continues to expand. Beyond preserving craft and creating income for women artisans, the women of Tithrite have led initiatives that benefit the entire community: offering sewing and hairdressing classes to increase youth employability, organizing medical caravans, purchasing trash bins to improve the village environment, and hosting events that strengthen local ties and traditions. Some of the youth who graduated from some of these initiatives have since opened their own shops nearby, earning a decent living in a rural economy where jobs are increasingly scarce. Now, settled into their new workshop, the women have launched a fresh collection of rugs inspired by the warm colors of fall in Ait Hamza, their village. Each rug sold supports not only their craft but also the community initiatives they continue to lead in their village."
